Your fabulous Antarctic Expedition begins in the
southernmost city of the world: Ushuaia. Who would ever forget their first sight of this spectacularly situated
town? The rugged spine of the Andes mountains, which stretch the entire length of the South American continent,
comes right down to meet the sea here at the southernmost tips of Chile and Argentina. For those of you, who fly
in from Buenos Aires, the sudden change in terrain will be an exciting contrast to the flat, dry Argentinean Pampas.
The plane swoopes low over the snow-and glacier-capped peaks, over huge glacial lakes and, finally, over the Beagle
Channel, that stretches as far as the eye can see between slices of peaked mountains. Then you will land on the
airstrip that projects straight out from Ushuaia into the Beagle Channel over several small islands now joined
by modern technology to the mainland, allowing us to land more safely.
